As I mentioned earlier in the week, we’ve hit a bit of a snag with the home remodel. The concrete refinishing isn’t going as smoothly as we had hoped (pun not intended), but we will get there eventually. In the mean time, I’m dreaming of a serene master bedroom. Here is what I’m thinking:

I LOVE the built in headboard above. This is the plan if we can swing it without blowing out the budget. Otherwise, I like the neutral color palette and minimal clutter. I detest items on the floor as a result of the cleaning headaches involved with moving everything around. I’m cutting back on all things free-standing.

Don’t you just want to curl up in this space and take a nap? The soft blues, a photo of the ocean, low-key bedding. That’s the vibe I’m after.

duvet cover || sheet set || throw || sconces || bed || rug || pillowcases || pendant

dots || large baskets  || leather basket || black planter || white planter || art print

mirror || chair || side table || room divider || day bed

Our bedroom is pretty long, and I’m not talented enough with photoshop (or any other design tool) to demonstrate our design to scale. The bed is somewhat centered in the room across from the fireplace. If you’re facing the bed, the master closet is to to the right (right of the entry into the room) and the shower is to the left. I think we have space for a daybed as well as a little reading nook. I’ll wait to get in there and start using the space to decide exactly what I want, but it’s fun to imagine.

I am head over heels for the pendant above the bed although it is outrageously priced. Maybe I can luck out and find something similar. The sconces are ridiculously affordable, as are some of the other accessories. We’ve always kept furnishings to a bare (cheap) minimum because we anticipate every house being a short-term investment, but we’re thinking this one might stick with us for a while. I’m looking forward to taking my time and buying things we love and cherish. I’m not proposing any nightstands (hopefully will be integrated into the headboard and floating) or dressers. If our wardrobes aren’t enough to store our items, then I think it’s time to purge!

What do we think? I’m sure I’m missing some odds and ends (just now seeing that I haven’t proposed any linens for the daybed), but we can always add items as we see fit. I’m a sucker for clean simplicity. I’ll eventually put together a ‘closet’ design and a ‘master bath’ design too.
